Some the first armour delivered to Russia in early 1942 were samples of the British Mk.VII Light Tank Tetrarch. As Russia desperatly required additional armour deliveries, these vehicles were simply taken from the UK First Armoured Divison. Originally developed as a light cruiser tank in the late 30s, the Tetrach had very light armour and driven by a powerful 165hp engine gave a remarkble top speed of 40 mph. With an excellent power-to-weight ratio, it was well suited to the local conditions and therefore was deployed to tank units of the Eastern fronts. Armament was 2 pounder (40mm) and 7.62mm machine gun. More details may be found here It was nicknamed by Russian crews as the Vickers VII or Mark VII due to being designed by Vickers-Armstrong, it was manufactured by Metro-Cammell.
